Paying your TurboTax fee does not file your tax return.  You either have to go all the way to the big orange button and click "Transmit my return" to e-file it, or you have to print it and mail it yourself.  So have you just discovered that your 2016 return was not filed--back in 2017 when it was supposed to be filed? If you are getting a refund it is not too late to get the refund.  If you owe tax due, then print, sign and mail your 2016 state return as soon as possible.  It cannot be e-filed now.  Mail a check or money order to pay the tax due, or go on the state's tax web site to pay.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS and/or your state received the return.
