Question

Why do none of my 1099s from investment companies display "document IDs"? (These are from major companies, such as Vanguard etc.) Can none of these docs be imported?

Some "Financial Partners" use the Document ID and some use your regular login information. Follow the directions for your broker.

Vanguard asks for a document ID, and the instruction says, "Use the account number and Document ID from the top banner on page one of your 1099 statement", but there is no doc ID anywhere near the top of the 1099. A Google query reveals that the TIN could be the SSAN. I used several formats for entry: XXX-XX-####, ###-##-#### (where # = a number) and none of them worked. I have a brokerage account and a traditional IRA, each which have different account numbers; neither work. This is a mess and I've spent at least 2 hours trying to figure it out.

Your Vanguard tax document has a Document ID.

It is on Page 1.

Leave out the blanks when you type it.
