Question

Why does an entry for state and local taxes appear as an itemized deduction in my draft federal return when I did not make such an entry in TurboTax?

I see a figure for state and local taxes on Schedule A of my federal return that I did not enter into TurboTax. Where does it come from?

TurboTax transfers amounts you entered elsewhere to Schedule A, line 5 State and local taxes.

State and local income taxes comes from the state and local amounts withheld on your W-2 in Boxes 15-20. It also includes any state and local tax you paid when you filed your 2019 return plus any estimated state and local payments you entered into TurboTax.

State and local real estate taxes come from the property taxes you entered in Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098) and Property (Real Estate) Taxes.

State and local personal property taxes come from Car Registration Fees and/or Personal Property Taxes (if applicable).
