Why does est. refund don't add up to my Total Refund? Turbo tax fees was only $80. Est tax refund is $972 less my Total refund.. Why is $2070 Total refind vs. Est $1098

This depends. The software will generate an estimate of the refund you should expect based on the information you provide. Keep in mind though that your refund estimate is only as accurate as the information you provide.

 

If you are referring to the refund received from the IRS, there are a few reasons why your refund from the IRS might be less than what was shown  on TurboTax:

  1. The IRS found a discrepancy in your return
  2. The IRS offset your refund toward past due income tax, child support, student loan, etc.

 

If your question relates to the refund Summary page in TurboTax, this page shows a combination of your Federal and State refunds. Therefore, if you are owing on Federal and expecting a refund on the State, the number shown will be the net of the two amounts.
