Why does it cost me $40 for direct deposit this year?

Turbo Tax does not charge for direct deposit. 

 

It appears you are using Turbo Tax Deluxe, which has a fee for the Federal return as well as a fee for your State return. Also if you chose to deduct your fees from your refund, there is an additional fee.
