Are you seeing the first 1040ES payment?  Did you get the 4 1040ES payment slips? They are quarterly prepayments for NEXT year. They are optional to pay. The 1040ES quarterly estimated tax payments DO NOT get sent to the IRS or state with your return. So they won't be expecting them.

Your tax due is a Single 1040 V voucher unless you entered your bank account for the IRS to pull it out.

    On your 1040 line

    • Check lines 37 (Amount You Owe)
    • And line 38 (Estimated Tax Penalty)

Is your payment off by that amount?

If not, please contact us again with any further details.

My line 37 says I owe $2,819 (Same as Turbo Tax).  My line 38 is blank.  But the first page says $1,242.  I don't understand the discrepancy at all.

The tax return line 37 is your federal amount due. You may be looking at a page in the program that adds your federal and state together for your "big" picture. Check your state return for refund or amount due. I bet it is a refund of the difference.

You will need to pay the IRS the full amount listed on line 37.
