Why does my state return tell me I owe 2,100 tax due??

You either paid less than your state tax liability is so you owe the state $2,100. This happens frequently with self-employed individuals who did not make state quarterly payments or when you work for an out of state employer that does not withhold taxes for your state or any state.

This can also simply be a typo. You should go back and double check your entries for your W2 in the federal section. Be sure decimals and commas are where they belong.
