Question

Why does the cost of using the deluxe version change from $39.00 when you start the return to $89.00 when the process says need deluxe to continue?

@allformy4

You mention Deluxe, but underneath your question above it says "Live Basic."   So that's confusing, and it's not clear what edition you are really in.

Or did you end up in Self-Employed Edition?  If so, a Federal return in the Self-Employed Edition is $89.  A state return is an extra $39.  Do you have a self-employed business/independent contractor/sole proprietor and need Schedule C to report Self-Employed income and expenses?   If you ended up in that edition and don't need it, we can tell you how to downgrade.    If you have  self-employment income without expenses, you can use Deluxe or Premier.

In any case, we can't see your fees in this user community forum, but here's how you can check on your fees:

Log into your Online TurboTax account and open your return.

Once the return is open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then select TOOLS.

In the Tools window, choose MY FEES.

If you are indeed in the Deluxe Edition, then regular Online Deluxe is currently $39 for a Federal return and, if applicable, $39 for a state return.   If you choose to pay the fees out of your Federal refund, there is an additional $40 fee ($45 for California filers.)

Sales tax is also added to any fees where applicable.
