You can continue to file your taxes without your employer's state ID number. You can either enter your employer's federal identification number in the field or a fictitious number to continue with your return. Your state will be able to refer to your employer's information by cross-referencing the federal tax identification number.

To ensure you are using the correct number, you can:

  1. Confirm the number used in TurboTax is the same as the number on your W-2
  2. Call your employer's human resource or accounting department and ask a representative to look up the information for you.
  3. Contact the Department of Revenue for the state in which you live.
