Why does the main turbo tax page say i can file within the next 5 days to get my state return for free but I'm still getting charged for it?

The banner you saw was about the end of free state returns with Federal Free Edition (Absolute Zero) on March 15; you apparently don't qualify for that, most likely because you need a long-form 1040. State returns are currently $39.99 extra with all paid versions of TurboTax Online.
