Why does Turbo Tax say I need to upgrade to Deluxe after entering my husband's 1095-A? Can't find info on the Schedule 5. Is the tax break more than the cost of Deluxe?

If you have a 1095-A for a Healthcare.gov/Obamacare plan, you likely have a Premium Tax Credit which is reported on Schedule 5 and requires an upgrade in TurboTax.  Everyone's tax credit is different so I do not know if your credit is more or less than the upgrade fee.  When you are on the screen that requests you to upgrade, it should tell you how much the PTC is.

If you want the credit without upgrading, you can look into the Free File Program.  If you qualify, you can file your tax return through them for free and get the credit.  Keep in mind however that you cannot use your regular TurboTax account even though it says 'TurboTax' on the qualifier screen.  This program goes through the IRS and is not tied to your TurboTax account (even though it looks like TurboTax).  Free File Program - Requires a Separate Account .

TurboTax won't add the Schedule 5 until you elect to upgrade....You can click through the questions again to see the screen that tells you the amount of the credit.
