Question

Why does TurboTax Online (Free) say I have to upgrade to Deluxe because I have the Lifetime Learning Credit when I am not getting the Lifetime Learning Credit?

I'm trying to finish filing, but Turbotax says that I have to upgrade because I'm getting the Lifetime Learning Credit. However, in the education section, Turbotax outright said that I'm ineligible.

Trying to finish filing for free.

EDIT: Would it be possible to delete the form the credit is on, if that's the problem?

TurboTax may be asking you to upgrade because you entered a Form 1098-T and found out you were not eligible for the Lifetime Learning Credit. If that's what happened, delete your Form 1098-T.

  1. Type 1098-t in Search in the upper right
  2. Select Jump to 1098-t
  3. TurboTax should bring you to Your Education Expense Summary
  4. Click Delete next to your name
