Question

Why does Turbotax refuse to offer a real person for customer support?

I've been a paying customer of Turbotax for years now, and have never needed a live agent. But for the past week, I have had a difficulty with the software that I need a live agent to address. The answer to the question isn't available anywhere online. Unfortunately, it has been absolutely impossible to connect with a live agent about the software in any medium. Turbotax doesn't offer email. Turbotax offers a "tax expert" if you pay a huge fee. But I don't need a tax expert, and shouldn't have to pay for simple customer support in any case. Turbotax has a phone number. But I have called numerous times. Every time, the automated system demands a "more specific" answer. I've tried numerous different responses to attempt to communicate my question. Every single time, the automated system says they'll email me a password reset, despite the fact that I never asked for it, and then ends the call. Why does Turbotax refuse to offer a real person for customer support?

That's strange. I just got off the phone with TurboTax support, and they were able to solve my issue. The number I called was 800.446.8848. It took a while to get through the voice-response system (try asking right away to speak to a representative), but then an agent picked up almost immediately, and she was very helpful.

Good luck!

To Tomg11: This response seems totally genuine and I believe it 100%.

Use this phone number and select TurboTax - 1-800-4-INTUIT (1-800-446-8848)

What is your exact issue ... maybe we can give you an answer here.

The exact issue is well-articulated above. Turbotax refuses to offer a real person for customer support. That's the issue.

I did not need to talk to a customer service representative for the past two years but when I was working on my 2020 return I did call customer service and did speak with a real person.   I am not aware that this has changed but depending on when you called, i.e. how close to April 18th could have affected the number of available customer service representatives and it could have extended the wait time.

As one of those people who works for Intuit solving customer problems, I can assure you that there are lots of people waiting for your calls who can help resolve your issues. Whether it is a small issue or a complex issue, we will stay on the phone for as long as it takes to get you a solution.  The experts are highly trained and work very hard to get you the accurate answers in a timely manner.  During tax season, we often work 12-16 hours a day.  Many of us are CPA's, or EA's and we have decades of experience.  All we ask is a nominal upcharge for access to the expert support. Once you agree to that upcharge, you will have free access to our experts for the entire tax year.  You are likely not getting put through to an expert because you are not agreeing to be upgraded to the Live service.  You are not even charged for it before you are connected to us.  You only pay if you do eventually file your return.  I hope this helps you find the value in the services provided by the hard working crew of professional who await your and other's calls each tax season.

You say that but just as the person postig this question, I have questions as well.

A host of them.

And peple in this forum act like it is a si in 2023/2024 to wan to talk to a one on one person instead of posting thie issues to the entire internet.

I can assure you this has gotten worse in 2024.

If there re sevral live people waiting to talk to us the why is there no way to skip the automated system and speak directly to a person regardless if you used TT this year or not?

Same for me.  Using the chatbot, it eventually told me someone would call me.  No one ever did.

I gave up hope and selected the option to post my question to the community.  I carefully wrote my question and hit send.  It said I would get an email.  I didn't.

I don't have a tax question.  I have a functional question about a product I bought and a potential data loss in my profile.

Even in this community where I am typing this now, there is nowhere on the page to enter a question.  Just a search box for a keyword.  I've already sent hours searching for answers.  Only a human can help at this point.

My question now is, what is the best alternative to TurboTax?

When reading any thread, including this one, scroll down the page below the user postings and close to the bottom you will see: "Still have questions? Make a post."

When you click that, you can start your own thread.    Scroll down this page, and you should see it after the user comments.

Also, at the very bottom of a thread (at least for me) is an overlying turquoise banner that says "Did the information on this page answer your question?"  And has a Yes or No icon.   If you click NO, it will offer you the opportunity to start your own question.  It "may" ask you to sign in again, but when I click that, since I'm already signed in, it automatically takes me to the question screen.

Thanks.  Make a Post is not visible when your are in the process of making a reply, but in that case it is understandable.

I have tried to call customer service over and over. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to get to speak to a real person. I've spent over an hour just trying to get to a person. The menu will not let me through with my issue. I'm LIVID.

I had a unique problem today with Turbo Tax, after 20 years of being a devout customer.  Usually, in January of a tax year, I get bombarded with several notices to get on Turbo Tax, bring over my information from the previous year, and commence the new tax year entries.  However, I received none of these notices this year, and called the customer support phone number.

The automated feature is unresponsive and untenable.  It took me almost 10 minutes to finally get the automated AI to relay me to Sierra at the customer support line.  Although nice, she could not give me a reason why I was no longer getting those emails, why changing emails for the new year would result in losing all the info of the previous year making me start over from scratch like a new customer,  and when we tried to fix by going through the phone id verification process, it was apparent Intuit is geared toward iPhones, not Androids.

She then switched me to the recovery department, where noone ever picked up, and I was never recovered.

This is the worse experience I have had with Intuit and Turbo Tax.  I would appreciate it someone would call me back from the Recovery Department and facilitate fixing my issues.

Thank you.  Michael  (Frederick is first name)

I've been having trouble with the software (online) and it's been nearly impossible to get support. I finally got to talk to a real person after about 30min on phone arguing with an AI bot and the person couldn't help the problem. She had me on hold for about 5min then hung me up. Never got a solution.

Did you see the answer I left you in your other thread earlier today about how to open the return interview back up to get to the Print Center where you can download various PDFs?

I called the 800-446-8848 number and got a real human.  The issue came when I wished to talk to a real human regarding an active TurboTax Accuracy case.  I was told the law prohibits them from talking to customers.  Odd in my opinion.  The email only for TurboTax Accuracy  is confusing and inefficient.   I have over a dozen emails from them, which all could have been solved in 1 or 2 phone calls.  In addition it takes 2 weeks to get a response.   I am curious which law prohibits them from talking to another person?

I dialed 0 and got one fairly quickly.  Left me with an uneasy feeling like he was trying to steal my information.  I will never use TurboTax again
