Question

Why doesn't my son qualify for the Child Tax Credit? (I'm claiming him as a dependent but the website says he doesn't qualify) My daughter does so wondering what changed?

How old was he on 12/31/2020?  He had to be 16 or younger.  Conversely, if he was born in  2020, be sure to indicate that he lived with you all year (which is okay for newborns).

juliettecay,

What are their ages?  Did you enter a social security number for each of them?  There is a detailed list of child tax credit requirements at

How old was your son at the end of 2020?   You cannot get the CTC for a child who was older than 16 at the end of 2020.   Or if he was born in 2020 you have to say he lived with you the whole year.  And he needs a Social Security number.
