Question

Why is a child I didn't claim on my federal taxes showing up on my state taxes and affecting my head of household filing status?

What state?   Some states allow credits for dependents that you could not claim on your federal return.   Go back to the My Info (left menu) section and make sure all your and only your dependents are listed correctly.   Then go back over your state return and if still doesn't look right, lets us know what state and what the situation is with the dependents.    The state returns pulls dependent information from the federal return.
