Question

Why is a state that I did not prepare a return for showing up in my list of returns I can print that I am ready to file?

In TurboTax Deluxe 2022, under "File a Return", is "Select the Returns You're Ready to Mail".  It says "Here are the returns that we have determined that you need to file".  It lists my federal, my state. and an additional state for which I did not file a return.  I can skip the extra state, but I'm concerned that there might be an error in the information I entered that would cause this.

Also, when I tried to print it to see why the program thought I should, it said that I hadn't finished the return yet, and to return to my Missouri program to finish.  I have not started a Missouri return, the ONLY state that I downloaded was Kansas.

And when I get to the page that says "Confirm the Returns You Want to Print" it shows Federal, Federal Amended Return, and Kansas.  I did NOT complete an amended Federal tax return.

Can someone tell me why these things are happening?  Is it program bugs?

Did you go out of the program, and then go back in at all and select add a state? @tbduvall

I don't understand why I would do that.  I finished my federal return and it said let's work on your state.  I selected Kansas as my free state, and nothing else because Kansas is the only one I need.  I have no idea where the references to Missouri and to an Amended Federal Return came from.

I only ask to see if that is why the additional state got pulled in. Since you do not need the Missouri return, please follow the instructions here to remove this state.
