Why is my federal return already saying accepted when I thought the irs was not accepting any until 1/29?

You are correct that the IRS announced their beginning date for accepting returns was 1/29/19, but every year they pull some returns early to test their systems, so it is possible for a tax return to be accepted before the 1/29/19 date.  Note, though, that having a return accepted early does not necessarily mean that a refund will be issued any earlier.
