If you have already attempted to e-file your return, but were rejected with rejection code F8962-070, you may find that you will not be able to answer the ''Did you receive a Form 1095-A?'' question with a NO response.   When you select No, TurboTax will revert your selection back to Yes.

If your return was rejected or if you previously started a Form 1095-A entry in TurboTax, Form 8962 will be generated.   But, if you do not have a 1095-A and know you will not be receiving one, you can delete the 1095-A from your return.  This will also remove the 8962 and allow you to change your answer to the 1095-A question to NO.   If you have confirmed that there is no 1095-A available from the Marketplace, follow the steps below.

  1. Delete the 1095-A form - see below

  2. Revisit the 1095-A section and answer NO to the 1095-A question

  3. E-file your return again

To delete the 1095-A from TurboTax, when you are signed into your tax return:

  1. Search for 1095-A or search for 1095-a and use the Jump to 1095-a link to be taken to the questions.

  2. Answer the question about unemployment and the next screen will show your 1095-A that was started.

  3. Use the Delete button or the trash can icon depending on your version to delete the form.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

You can also delete the form in Forms Mode, if using the desktop software or by clicking on Tax Tools >> Tools >>Delete a form in TurboTax Online.

Once the form is gone, TurboTax will accept a NO answer and you can then re-submit your tax return.

If your return is rejected again, Healthcare.gov has a 1095-A on file with one or more SSNs on your return.    Someone in your family (probably your parents) had marketplace insurance and received the Advance Premium Tax Credit.    Your return won't be able to be e-filed without Form 1095-A.   But it is easy to get.

  1. Login to your healthcare.gov account (create an account if you need to), download Form 1095-A and re-efile your tax return; or

  2. Wait to receive your Form 1095-A in the mail. The ACA Marketplace will begin mailing these out on January 31, 2022.

It only takes a few minutes to set up the account on their website.   Many users have found that once checking their account, there is a 1095-A available to enter.   Once you enter the form, you can successfully e-file your return.   You will also be able to allocate the premiums and Advance Premium Tax Credits to another person in a case where you are on your parents Marketplace health plan.

They won't start mailing the letters out until next week and if the person whose policy you are on lives elsewhere, you may not get the letter.   If you file by mail without Form 1095-A and 8962 (TurboTax creates this form for you), the IRS will not process it.   They will send out letters requesting the form, they may request an amended tax return, and any refund you are waiting on may be delayed for months.
