Why is my return still not accepted or rejected? Why is it still pending after 30 hours?

I submitted my return within the same hour as my sister and brother and both received an acceptance within the hour. I have never waited more than 20 minutes to get an acceptance- why is it taking longer? Is this a turbotax issue?

Update: this is DEFINITELY a turbotax issue.

I read other people having the same issue with TT through other threads and some of those other people had decided to go via other tax software to file because the IRS will accept whichever return they get first. So, out of curiosity if this was an IRS or Turbo issue I did file with another software. My return was accepted within 10 minutes like it usually is. If TT had sent it, it would have been rejected for already being sent. Turbo tax, for whatever reason, is not sending the return right to the IRS. So do with that information what you will but rest assured I will never be touching this software again.

There could be a couple of reasons why you might be experiencing a delay:

    1. First, the status might be pending for security reasons. This may be a sign that someone is trying to use your identity to file a tax return. This can take up to 72 hours, after which your return will then be forwarded to the IRS, or if applicable, rejected. If rejected, you can then correct the rejection issue and resubmit. Please see this FAQ for reference.

    2. Secondly, there could be a delay if your return has various refundable credits, such as the Earned Income Credit, Investment Credit, Energy Credits, or Business Credits. You may need to wait a few more days and check your filing status again. Please see this FAQ for additional information.

Note: Both instances may be applicable. That is, you could have a hold for security reasons first. And additionally for verification of the refundable credits in your return. In this case, delays might extend beyond 72 hours.

Additionally, if you have Form 5695 and claiming joint occupancy, the IRS will not be accepting these returns until 3/16/25. You can see this on this IRS site. The language you see below is from Row 39 of the Tax Year 2024 spreadsheet.

Taxpayers claiming Joint Occupancy on Form 5695 will have to file via paper if filing their return before the Form 5695 schema is updated in mid-March. This temporary limitation should only impact a subsection of Form 5695 filers.  For a preview of the TY24 draft form and instructions for Form 5695, please see the Draft tax forms on IRS.gov at https://www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms. Submission of Forms 5695 that do not claim Joint Occupancy may be e-filed at the start of Processing Year 2025

None of these apply to me, and my return is still not accepted by the IRS, and according to where's my refund tracker, not even sent to them.

So why is turbotax causing a delay on my return? And why can I not get any help with it, because the IRS line says it has not been sent.

This is my 8th day of waiting. I can’t get any answers.  If there is a problem with the return it would have been rejected by now.

This is a blanket answer they are giving everyone. No one really knows mine has been pending for 9 days now state returns came back fine but was never notified they were accepted

Thanks, that's what I figured. I'm a bit disappointed because my sisters used freetaxusa and they all got their acceptances within the hour but I still haven't gotten one from turbo..

Did you ever try/were you able to get an update on the wheres my refund portal? Mine is saying the return doesn't have any matches as if I didn't send it in
