Why is my total return on $283?

I’m only getting $283 in total returns, I owe $450 in federal and I’m getting $733 in state for my return. I’m assuming the $450 was tooken out of my state to balance out what I’m

Less Federal Amount Due: - $450

Total Refund: $283

Federal and state are completely separate. You will get the full state refund and you need to pay the federal tax due. At the end Turbo Tax shows you a summary of the net combined federal and state. But that is only for your info. You will still get the full amount and need to pay any tax due separately yourself.

Check your federal return and filing instructions to see how you set up to pay it. Either by Direct Debit your bank account or mail in a check or by credit card.
