On the summary page it shows my “Mortgage Interest, Refinancing and Insurance” as 16,506.  But I just entered the Form 1098 for my mortagge, and that is nearly double the Mortgage Interest, that I JUST entered (9,644).   I didn’t refinance and don’t have mortgage insurance.  It used to be Turbotax would show you where it’s calculated number came from, but now everything is a complete mystery.

Is this some carry over from previous year because of tax law changes?  Why is Turbotax so mysterious?

It is possible that the mortgage interest was inadvertently entered twice. You should delete the forms and re-enter.

    To delete, follow these steps:

    • Click on Tax Tools from the menu on the left
    • Click on Tools
    • Choose Delete a Form
    • Scroll through the listed documents until you find 1098 or Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet
    • Delete each form

Then, return to the Deductions & Credits section under your Federal return and re-enter the mortgage interest information.
