Question

Why is the amount of Federal Household Employment Taxes that I owe so much more than what I withheld from our Nanny's paychecks (Fed income tax, SS tax, and Medicare)?

When you pay your household Employment taxes, you have to pay the employer's share of Social security tax (6.2% of income) and Medicare tax (1.45% of income) in addition to the amount withheld from your employee's paychecks for Federal tax, Social security and Medicare tax. This is why the amount due is higher than the amount withheld.
