Question

Why is TurboTax trying to count my scholarship income twice?

I entered my education information with my 1098-t but then at the end of the federal section turbotax gives me a schedule 1 line 8 form that has that same amount again and the TT calculator will double it up. once for the 1098-t section and again for the "other income" section. I restarted fresh and got back to the same section to make sure I'm understanding it right and it's going to do the same thing.
I think it is technically correct to have it on the schedule 1 line 8 but then TT shouldn't count the 1098-t info a separate, it's the same money.

The 1098-T should be triggering the income, sch 1 line 8 is correct. You should not need any separate additional entries for the income. You are correct, it should only show once. Once you enter the 1098-T, that should be it.

What happens if you enter zero for the sch 1 line 8 entry that pops up? Will it give you the correct answer showing just the scholarship or does it eliminate the income?
