Why was I charged 180.00 for my return when the original said 140.00 for fees...it didnt give me an option to change

You always have the option to change until you either file or pay. The extra $40 was to have the $140 turbotax fees withheld from your federal refund and once you file you cannot change this. To do this you had to READ and AGREE before you could continue ...
