Why was my son’s taxes rejected as he is 17 and employed. I claimed him as a dependent on my taxes and now they have rejected his saying his social has been used already

Because I claimed his as a dependent of mine on my own return. He should still get his own return for him being employed I thought

If you've filed your taxes, and claimed him as a dependent, he will be rejected if he did not indicate that he can be claimed by someone else on their tax return.

Have him go back into his tax return.

  1. Under My Info (Top of left sidebar)
  2. Click the down arrow next to his name
  3. [Revisit]
  4. Continue to Let's check for some other situations
  5. [X] Another taxpayer can claim me as a dependent on their tax return.
  6. Close the return and re-tile it

I have the same situation. However, after changing my son's return to indicate he was claimed as a dependent, his return still gets rejected.

Here is the interesting part, on my return, I tried to claim him as a dependent but he has aged out and is no longer a student. Net, he is not shown as a dependent on page 1 of my return.  However, there is a dependent worksheet that still shows him. Is this causing an issue?  How do I fix this issue? Thanks.
