Why wasn't my 20% discount offer applied when I paid for my tax return?

I received an email from another user that gave me a link for a 20% discount off of TurboTax Federal return products. This person also will get a $10 gift card. I used the link in the email to start my return. Why wasn't the 20% off applied to the invoice I just paid? I have not yet electronically filed my return.

The trick is reading the fine print ... you get UP TO 20% off ... and that is off the regular prices ... but the current prices are already discounted so you don't get a discount on the discount ... next week the discounts go away and then this discount is more visible. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

Yeah, me too. I tried to contact turbo tax and they basically said tough luck. So be aware that this is not as simple as they make it seem. I’m am sure that it isn’t intentional (sarcasm) but I will be going through a different tax product next year.
