My account says I have submitted my tax return but the IRS has no record of it. When I look at the account I see it was done. What is going on? I need my information for my FAFSA account.

If you verified that your return was e-filed through the TurboTax Tool Check Your E-File Status Here then your return was submitted and you are now awaiting the IRS to process it. Please use the IRS website: Where's My Refund? for more information. If there are any issues with your return and it has not been "Accepted" yet by the IRS, you will receive a notice in the mail which can take at least 45 days (or more) from the day filed.

It's been longer than 21 days since the IRS received my return and I haven’t gotten my refund. Why?

Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:

  • Includes errors
  • Is incomplete
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit
  • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
  • Needs further review in general

"We will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return." -IRS

You may want to follow up with your Financial Aid office for other options available to you while you are waiting for an update from the IRS
