Question

Why would I receive a W2c if no taxes were deferred on unemployment wages in 2020?

unemployment wages are not taxed for payroll or social security. I had Federal and State withheld, Turbo Tax says I will get a W2c later this year

If you do not have a W-2 because you were not employed anywhere in 2020 or have any self-employment income, you can ignore that message.   This is not an error that will prevent you from filing and won't affect your tax return.   Revisit the section for the Self-employment tax deferral entry:

  1. Return to the Deductions & Credits section.
  2. Scroll to Tax relief related to COVID-19 and Show More.
  3. Select Self-employment tax deferral and select Revisit.
  4. Answer NO - this may remove the error message.
