Will it make a difference if I put my name instead of my husband's as primary or does it need to be changed?

We have always filed jointly under his name first and mine as spouse

The IRS requires the you use the same sequence of names ('taxpayer' & 'spouse') each year. Changing the primary name (first name listed aka 'taxpayer') will cause delays in processing your return (and it is not easily done).

You can change the order but your return will most likely be rejected if you e-file because of the order of the names on the return.
