That type of error is usually related to your Employer Identification Number (EIN) on a W-2. You can review your W-2 forms and check that the EIN is correct.

  1. Sign in to your account and click Fix my return.
  2. You should get a message about what needs to be corrected on the return.
  3. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.
  4. If it doesn't take you to a specific form, select Federal from the left pane.
  5. Click Edit/Add next to Job (W-2).
  6. Click Edit to the right of your employer's name.
  7. The second box on the next screen is the EIN.
  8. Repeat until you have checked all of your W-2 forms.
  9. Click Review on the left to check your return.
  10. Continue into the File section and re-submit your return.
