Im having issues filing my return. Me and my wife file our taxes separately and Im not allowed to move onto my filing without entering her "2024 tax return" info.  My wife hasn't filed her taxes yet this year and usually does it later. Why wont it let me bypass this info and just let me file my own?

When filing Married Filing Separately, there are some items on your tax return that depend on how your spouse files, such as claiming the Standard Deduction or Itemizing.

Deductible IRA contribution limits  also depend on whether the spouse is covered under a retirement plan.

Additionally, if you live in a Community Property State, your income will need to be allocated between you and your spouse even when filing separately.

You should be able to get the information you need from your wife (or at least agreements about certain issues such as how to claim deductions) so that you can file, even if she has not completed her return. If you're in a community property state, it will be a little more complicated and you might want to do both separate returns together.
