My son is claimed as a dependent on my taxes and he claimed 0 on his W2:

#1 - Should I and am I required to add his W2 to my submission?

#2 - If I forgot to do it last year can I add the W2 on this years return?

Thank you SO VERY MUCH>

    No each year is separate.

You don't include their income on your return. It would only go on their return if they are required to file one.  To file a separate return for your dependent you need to set up a new account.  Online is only good for one return per account.  You can use the same email address for 5 accounts.

Be sure on their return they check the box that says they can be claimed on someone else’s return.  If their only income is W2 and under 13,850 (for 2023) they do not have to file a return except to get back any withholding taken out.

    Thank you so much.

For the previous year (2022) because I didn't submit one can I still do that to possibly get some back in taxes? IF so do I create an amended return, add it this years, or....?

    This is super helpful VolvoGirl!

No he would have to file an original 2022 return.  Sorry it's too, late to start a 2022 online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS.  And too late to efile 2022.

If you need to start 2022 you can buy the Desktop download here,

TurboTax 2022 Prior Year Tax Prep - File Past Years' Taxes

You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.

If you have a simple return and want to file for free you can fill out the forms by hand.  That would be a good learning experience for him.
