You're "Free" Software is not free, not even close

This is false advertisement. At the end when I was about to file, I had to upgrade to deluxe to claim the child care credit. It told me $40. Then, right before I was about to file, it jumped to $120. WTF? No thank you. I went with a different solution. FreeTaxUSA and the grand total for everything, including the child care credit was only $12.99.

I understand it costs money to eFile. But don't claim you can do it for free, then jump to $120. That is nowhere even close to free. Be upfront with your price. I guess people probably get to the end and they've put in all that work and think "oh well, I've spent all this time filling this information out, I'm not going to stop now, might as well pay it".

Not me. This is shady practice. I'll never use TurboTax again.

There was another Free one you could have used.

In the regular Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now. Why do I have to upgrade from the Free Edition?

There is also The Turbo Tax Free File program which is free for federal and state. And has more forms than the Federal Free Edition, like Schedules A, B, C , D, E, F, EIC, H, K-1, SE, etc.

To qualify for the Free File website you just need to meet one of these 3 things

AGI $36,000 or less

Active duty military with AGI of $69,000 or less

OR qualify for EIC (earned income credit.)

In order to use the Free File program, you have to start it at a special website. Click on the Orange button I Qualify, Let's get Started and set up a NEW account

How about this one. I paid the 120.00 and the IRS holding my taxes “for additional review” When literally the three people that told me to use Free Tax USA already have received their refund. I filed the middle of January. This truly is my last time using Turbo Tax. I’m a single mom and really needed all of my refund. This was highway robbery 🤯.
