Question

Has anyone had an issue with T4A box 48 not autofilling into income? I manually enter the amounts correctly but CRA reassessed because of the missing info. Not good!

We have not heard of this issue. Can you please verify your return to see if it has been added?

    Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

What do you want verify on my return?  From what CRA is saying, the amount should've been recorded on line 13500, but it was blank.   I can see the amounts in the T4A wizard correctly.

T4A box 48 goes to the T2125, and result of T2125 goes into line 13500 (net business income). Is the amount from T4A box 48 showing up on your T2125? Did you claim any expenses?

T4A box 48 is "Fees for services", which is considered self-employment/business income. This is why the CRA is saying the amount needs to go on line 13500, which is net business income. Line 13500 is calculated based off of the result of the T2125, so if there is no T2125, then line 13500 will be empty.

I understand that, but why wouldn't the program "prompt" me saying I have income that I have NOT checked a box for?  It literally didn't do anything with the amounts I put it.   EXAMPLE: What if I put in T4 information and said I wasn't employed, what would it do with that information?   Because of this, I have been reassessed and charged $88 interest as well?

Yes, if you go step-by-step, the self-employment section should appear if you have already entered a T-Slip that has self-employment income on it. If you skip around, then the review should say something about missing info in the self-employment section.

When you paid for this TurboTax return did it charge you for the self-employed version?

Check if you have fill out T2125.

I have used this program for 15 years with no issues for the T4A box 48 :Fees for services: automatically populating the correct line on the T2125 business return until the 2024 version.  To my understanding the T4A for 2024 has not changed, nor has the assignment for the Box 48 Fee for Services which has traditionally populated the T2125.  With all of the other issues going on, why would something that has worked continuoulsy for 15 years suddenly not work?  It creates a mountain of uncertainty about the programmers at TurboTax and whether the program is no longer suitable to trust for small business owners.  Since I last reported this, there have been two formal updates, but this issue, which seems minor in comparrison to the capital gains fiasco between the CRA and Turbo Tax seems like an easy fix to make.

@AESS, when you use Auto-Fill, it is really important to go through all the T-slips imported and make sure all the information is accurate with the original slip. It is one of the NETFILE conditions.

When a verification of the T4A is done after Auto-Fill, you'll have to open the T4A and select the source of the box 48. If you don't, the software won't be able to report this amount at the proper place in your return (see screenshots).

When you enter manually your T4A slip, the source of box 48 is required to be able to save it and go to the next step (see screenshot). If no source is selected, you will have an error message.

I have NEVER had to "tell" the program where to put the amount in Box 48 in 15 years.  I get it if you have mutliple businesses and multiple T2125 forms open, but with only one open, where else would it go?  I appreciate the reply as it now works as it always "used to" before the new "improvement".  Thank you for clearing this up.
