The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) did not require an access code because you were filing for the first time. Now that you have filed before, CRA will ask you to use the access code that is attached to your Notice of Assessment (NOA) from the previous year to continue filing for your current tax return.

The 8-character alphanumeric code found in the upper-right hand corner of your Notice of Assessment (NOA) is called the NETFILE Access Code, or NAC.

The CRA plans to use this code for tax filers who may need to call in to the CRA customer service line for assistance with their tax information or return(s).

NOTE: This is an optional field that doesn't need to be filled out for you to successfully NETFILE. However, should you choose to enter this code, it must match what the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has on file. After five unsuccessful attempts to enter the code, your account will be locked for security purposes, and you'll be given an error message with information to contact the CRA.
