Question

I purchased Turbo Tax Deluxe (8 Returns). Why does Turbo Tax state that there will be an additional cost of $42 for my and my spouse's tax returns?

With TurboTax Online, you pay based on what is on the return. If you start a Deluxe return, but enter something that’s not available in Deluxe, then you’ll be upgraded. If you have activated a Deluxe 8 Return code, then you will only have to pay the difference between Deluxe and whatever your return needs.

I don't understand. I purchased and activated Turbo Tax Deluxe which is supposed to provide up to 8 Returns. I start to input my information when it asks if I am including  my wife's Return.  I indicated "yes" and all of a sudden Intuit says it will cost me an additional $42?  Why? I already paid for 8 Returns when I purchased the Deluxe version.

Did you enter your activation code at turbotax.ca/activate before starting your returns?

Why did turboxtax did not include investments this year in the deluxe version and moved it to the premier edition?

There have been changes made to TurboTax Online. Please see these TurboTax FAQs for more information: Why did I have to upgrade my TurboTax Online edition?

    Thank you for choosing TurboTax.

I understand but I purchased the 8 returns at costco based on all the previous years experience and now they are unusable and cannot be refunded simply because I have T5s and T5008 in my returns...

I wish I would have known that turbo tax had changed their pricing structure beforehand.

I purchased the Deluxe Online Version and have a T5013, small business income and rental income and now I'm finding out that to file in 2024 I will need to purchase a $129.00 version.  I've used the Standard Version for the last 10 years and never had a problem.  What is going on? Why can't I just enter this information like I used to?

@JBBlair1 In 2021, TurboTax optimized its editions to ensure that our customers are getting access to the forms need to make the most out of every individual's tax need to the most out of every individual's tax situation, and to respect his accuracy guaranty of the calculation. Since certain claims/expenses were moved to the appropriate edition. TurboTax is better able to guide our customers through their filing journey and ensure that no credits or deductions are missed. If you have Self-Employed income , even though no expenses, you still have to complete T2125 which is not available in Deluxe version. If the claim/ Expense is not covered by the Deluxe version, you will be automatically prompted to upgrade to the appropriate edition.

According to live agent I spoke with, she said you can only use all 8 returns in one tax year! Meaning you should have filed 8 returns like for each people submitting their return that year you purchased the said deluxe box. So good for 8 returns (8 people) so sadly if you purchased it like me for you and your spouse thinking you can use it for both of you for multiple tax years thinking you both can submit up to 4 years, turbotax don't want that much savings for us they are greedy and want your money each year so must purchase said deluxe box per tax year. I suggest you try Rakuten then get discounted turbotax submission $16 approx per person

I have the same case, I am being charged $42 when I was about to submit our 2024 tax returns. Our tax profiles are exactly the same as 2023 but how come I was being charged now? The packaging clearly states that I can use it for 8 returns and I just used 2 last year (for mine and my wife) so I still have 6 left.

I saw a comment that your customer service mentioned that the 8 returns should be used in a year which is quite impossible for individual users like us. Is this a case of false advertisement and money grabbing scheme? We bought this turbotax deluxe online edition thinking that we'll have a smooth tax filing and will save money but seeing charges of $21 per individual is I believe not right because we've already paid for this.

This is really frustrating for consumers like us. So we are hoping @tubrotax can resolve this the soonest possible or can provide clear explanation on these additional charges.

    Thanks

After calling Customer Service, I realized that TurboTax has eliminated access to many forms (self-employed income, real estate income, T5008, etc.)  in the Deluxe version that were included last year. As a result, I submitted a request for a refund for the Deluxe version and had to purchase the Home and Office version instead.  It is an obvious money grab from Turbo Tax.
