Question

TurboTax gave me wrong advice, and CRA is charging me thousands of dollars now. Do I have recourse?

TurboTax told me to file rental repairs as business expenses that CRA thinks are capital expenses. They’re charging me a bunch of arrears interest as well. Can TurboTax advocate for me to CRA?

If you used Full Service, or did your own taxes but purchased Premium Pack (with Audit Defence), then you can have someone help you deal with the CRA. You would have been sent an email with how to start the Audit Defence process.

I used Live Assist & Review. I’m guessing that means TurboTax can’t help me with CRA directly.

Can I speak with someone, though, about what CRA is telling me? I claimed a lot of repairs as normal business expenses, which multiple TurboTax specialists told me was fine. CRA now says I should have filed those as capital expenses, to be integrated into the capital cost allowance schedule. They’re also charging me quite a lot in arrears interest.

If CRA is correct, then why did so many TurboTax folks counsel me otherwise?
