The amount of tax due depends on your income. The more you earn, the higher your calculated income tax will be. This is called a progressive (or graduated) tax system.

Income tax brackets are ranges of income on which a set rate of tax is applied.

    • Canadian taxpayers pay income tax to the federal government as well as to the government of the province/territory where they reside.
    • Credits and deductions are 2 common ways of reducing your taxes owing and/or increasing your tax refund.

This has nothing to do with my question.  The software is giving an incorrect amount of income tax deducted.  It does not agree with the actual amounts that I have entered from T4 slips.  I was told the software did have an error in it. Has it been corrected??

You will need to check the slip you entered in the software to make sure you entered the correct amounts in the correct boxes—or if you use CRA Auto-Fill and then add them yourself, that would double your tax deduction. You may want to verify your CRA My Account to see what tax slips they have.
