Question

Should I say 'Yes' for 'Was spouse's net income for 2021 zero?'?My spouse worked in the USA and had income in the USA. We both were non-residents of Canada for 2021.

You would answer YES because your non-resident spouse would not be reporting Canadian earnings on a Canadian tax return and would not have a net income on Line 23600.

As seen in our TurboTax article Foreign Income and Tax Treaties: As a non-resident of Canada, you do not have to report foreign income to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).  If you have Canadian income, such as pension payments or capital gains from property sales, you must file an income tax return in Canada.

    Thank you for choosing TurboTax
