1099-B Worksheet Error: Keep asking "Date Acquired must be entered for xxx"

Hi,

I imported a 1099-B form and each stock seems to have correct information (i.e. acquired date, date sold, etc). However, it keeps saying there is an error and the Date Acquired must be entered for xxx stock while reviewing the report even after I entered the date manually. Data was imported from M1 Finance. Not sure how to fix this. Any help/advice/tip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Having this same exact issue and incredibly frustrated. Tried deleting the import and reimporting but still did not work. Going to have to enter thousands of transactions manually so this will be the absolute last year I will be using Turbo Tax. Good riddance and hire better software developers please. Peace and love!

I HAVE HAD IT WITH TURBO TAX.  IT'S LIKE DO IT YOURSELF SOFTWARE.  I SHOULD JUST FILL OUT THE MANUAL FORMS AND IT WOULD BE EASIER.  I CALLED IN FOR HELP AND THE REP HUNG UP ON ME BECAUSE I TOLD HIM AFTER EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM THAT HE HADN'T HEARD A WORD I SAID.   WHY SHOULD THE CUSTOMERS HAVE TO FIX EACH OTHER'S ISSUES OR SHARE PROBLEMS????? OBVIOUSLY BECAUSE TURBOTAX IS A JOKE AND THEY HAVE ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE.  THIS ISSUE WITH THE ACQUSITION DATE IS KILLING ME EVEN WITH THE SOLUTIONS OFFERED HERE.   THE POINT IS TURBOTAX SHOULD FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY.   HELLO ANOTHER TAX SOFTWARE NEXT YEAR.   NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I USE THIS GARBAGE TO DO MY TAXES.   MAKE SURE TO RATE THEM 1 STAR ON THE APP ALSO.

After 3 days of mental stress, phone calls, trail and thousands of errors dealing with this issue I have the solution 1099-B in my situation

For Turbo Tax Download version on Windows. I cannot speak for online version.

Step 1: Delete all turbo tax programs (make sure you have your product code)

Step 2: completely update your PC and restart and reconfirm all updates have been installed and restart again.

Step 3: Reinstall Turbo Tax thru your online account download purchase history

Step 4: start turbo tax and follow instructions for set up. And start a return.

Step 5: upload previous year taxes (this is only time you can import previous year taxes) and "confirm your deductions are there!" I found manually entering the path only uploads the income!

Step 6: Now import your financial institution tax files or you 1099-B

(If you Remove your imported 1099-B after you import it, it will cause thousands of entry issues. If you think you need to Remove a imported file your step should completely start a fresh return, if you do this make sure to delete all other saved started files)

Step 7: before doing any other data entry in your filing go immediately to review and see if there's any issues to deal with. Out of 38 pages of day trading data imported I had only 5 easy fixes. I found using Forms view was better for fixing issues.

Step 8: with these steps now complete move on to the rest of your data entry.

Step 9: I highly recommended after you enter one form or a each deduction category you perform a review. Solving 1 issue at a time is much easier.

Before deleting files its a good practice to have a back flash drive fir deleted files "make sure when you start and save a new return your working it goes on a separate flash drive!"

Another issue i dealt with was my PC had a setting that limited downloads to metered networks. Once i over road that my downloads started downloading very fast. The path is settings>wifi chose network your using then click the wifi icon and you get advanced settings, you will find meter settings there.

So with no sleep for days working on this I'm going to have a drink!

Peace!

I have this issue as well. Have tried to reimport the form today but the issue is still there.

I mean, this is preventing all of us here (and others I'm sure) from filing our taxes. A pretty real blocker.

What is the deal

March 6, 2021

3/5, still having this issue. Any updates on a fix?

March 7, 2021

@bmuscoty3790 I did the manual entry with 4+ sales selection and first page of the 1099 had all the totals. Attached the 1099. It was easy and took about 5 minutes

Thanks for reminding, I tried the turbo tax again, seems it made some progress, but still doesn't work

Now, it keeps asking "Has QSB stock". Seems it doesn't move forward to check another transaction, nor update its internal record. -- falls into an infinite loop.

Should be similar issue, please help take a look.

Thanks,

I am experiencing the same problem.. infinite loop and not able to get out. This is not a pleasant experiencing and filing tax has never been so time consuming

March 18, 2021

The issue has been submitted and is currently under investigation.  We are currently working to resolve this issue.  If you would like to receive an update for the progress, click on the following link to get notified:

Acquired date

Any asset you hold for one year or less at the time of sale is considered “short term” by the IRS.  Capital assets that you hold for more than one year and then sell are classified as long-term on Schedule D and Form 8949.

The net gain or loss from you Form 1099-B will show on line 4 of Schedule 1 and line 7 of Form 1040.  For more information, click here: 1099-B

Hi, @linaj20201 Lina2020:

Can you help take a look at my problem about QSB infinite loop? It had blocked me for more than 3 weeks.

Thanks a lot.

March 27, 2021

As of March 27, it is working. No more infinite loop, and maybe the working flow was changed too.

I have to manually review more than 200 small covered call transactions, one by one, page by page.

anyway, it had filed the tax return successfully

Thanks

Still broken

April 28, 2021

Here is what I figured out as I also thought this was a bug.  Basically if you only purchased shares one time and sold all of them at once then you should have a date on the form, if not then put the date you bought those shares.  If you bought multiple lots of shares over time and the form is blank then you choose "various" as there is not one single purchase date.  Both of these options get you around the issue.

May 17, 2021

Still broken and there is no option to choose various. It literally says "It has to be a date" turbo tax won't let you.

Last time I ever use turbo tax.

October 15, 2021

I filed for the extension so I just finished my taxes Oct 13, 2021.

It seems to be having different problems than in the earlier posts here.

I had problems with covered calls, but not for all of them.  Just for EPD , Enterprize Production Partners.

All the problems I had were for this stock.

I forgot how but I got it to stop asking for the review but then it wanted each one to be entered manually.

I had support on the phone while doing this.

A covered call is first sold and then bought to close at a later date.

The program was stuck on " The sales date can not be before the purchase date".

Support did not have a solution for this.

It downloaded all the transactions on the 1099-B which it never did before.

I could not get it to file online so I had to download the PDF version with included each trade.

Support told me I may have to file an amended return.

I mailed it to the IRS.  I hope they can figure it out and I wont have to file an amended return. 😞

Is there a different version of Turbo Tax that is better for stock trading?

March 18, 2022

Not only does the software not import the purchase date,  when asked to correct the issue, the purchase date that I manually input goes to the incorrect trade.   What's going on?

March 18, 2022

If you imported the data and get errors in review, you could delete the imported data and enter it manually (or just delete/re-enter that particular transaction).

If you have numerous transactions, here's How to Enter a Summary in Lieu of Individual Transactions.

Replying to your expert suggestion.....  There are alot of entries.   The main reason I purchased Turbo Tax  was to be able to import the equity transaction dates correctly and accurately.   Your response indicates NO effort to investigate and resolve the issue.

April 8, 2022

The final review says I have not entered something on Line B of a 1099-R.  I have gone back and either corrected and/rechecked all my 1099R's and it still will not let me continue with the e-filing.  Guess I will mail it in hard copy unless I can get an answer from someone!!!Help!!!

If it's a Worksheet that is causing the error, but everything else is correct, try deleting the Worksheet.  Worksheets are not submitted with your return.  If you are using TurboTax online, follow these steps to delete a form.

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.
