(2021) 1099-B - Type "X"

On my 1099-B, I have one sale that is type "X", but no information on whether it is long term, short term, etc. or handled some other way. Please let me know what I need to do to resolve the issue. Thanks. Michael

You have to to look through your records to see when you bought the shares. And it may be a combination of short term and long term. So you might need to split it up into 2 sales.

1099B instructions say Code X, use this code to report a transaction you cannot determine whether the recipient should check box B or box E on Form 8949 because the holding period is unknown.
