897 capital gains line 2f on 1099-DIV

I have 897 capital gains from Reits line 2f.  This is included in line 2a capital gains.  I thought line 2f did not apply to US citzens.  So why is it there and should Turbo Tax subtract it out for US citizens.

The instructions for form 1099-DIV say:

Only RICs and REITs should complete boxes 2e and 2f. Boxes 2e and 2f do not need to be completed for recipients that are U.S. individuals.

As an individual taxpayer, you are not concerned by information in boxes 2e and 2f.

I am concerned because the amount in 2f is added to the 2a captial gains line.  In one case all the cap gains are from line 2f.

2f does not add to your income nor does it really affect your taxes. i put in an amount and took it out and my taxes did not change. that amount is for alternative minimum tax purposes for taxpayers filing 1040-NR so Turbotax just ignores it. Turbotax does not do NR returns.

Right because it is included in 2a which does affect the taxes.  My question is should it be included in 2a.
