Am I eligible for a tax deduction due to a fire in my apartment building
Good day to you all. My situation is as follows. I live in New York State. I was evicted from my home in 2023 due to a fire caused by my upstairs neighbor. Some of my items were destroyed as a result and I no longer live in that apartment as well. I am ignorant to taxes so Im unsure as to what if any deductions I am entitled to, alongside what proof I might need to provide when filing my taxes this year. I'll also add that I didnt have any Renters Insurance. Can anyone provide guidance as to what forms I might fill, or point me in a direction where I can learn more. Again, in regards to taxes I am below a layman.
