Question

Am I eligible for the 'New York City Enhanced Real Property Tax Credit' if I paid rent a room in an NYC apartment? How do I fill this out?

I'm a little confused about this Tax Credit - if I pay rent monthly for a room in NYC (with utilities included) have lived in this place for the entire year, make less than the 200k per year, and cannot be claimed as a dependent, can I qualify for this credit?

Yes, if you qualify you can claim the credit- however, note that because you rent a room i  an apartment, you will have to make sure that the total of the credit is divided between everyone living there.

To qualify for this credit, you must meet all of these conditions for tax year 2017:
•Your household gross income was less than $200,000.
• You occupied the same New York City residence for six months or more.
• You were a New York City resident for all of 2017.
•You could not be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer’s federal income tax return.
•Your residence was not completely exempted from real property taxes.
