Question

Can anyone help me to resolve this? Check This Entry says the Sec 179 Carryforward-Reg should not be entered because this rental property is not a commercial property.

How do I take the Sec 179 expense in 2022 and not cause errors?

It sounds like you are trying to take a sec 179 on a rental house. You can't do that.  A rental house is not eligible but expenses for items in it can be. See Electing the 179 deduction which states:

Property Acquired for Business Use

To qualify for the section 179 deduction, your property must have been acquired for use in your trade or business. Property you acquire only for the production of income, such as investment property, rental property (if renting property is not your trade or business), and property that produces royalties, does not qualify.

Thanks. I will revise 2021 and reclass the section 179 items as  expense or depreciate them.

What activity is your 179 Carryover related to?

Per Expert @patriciaV23:

'Line 24 Section 179 expense deduction disallowed appears on the Federal Carryover Worksheet. When you see a SmartCheck message about this amount, you should also see the worksheet displayed so you can enter the corrected value.

Using Forms Mode in TurboTax for Desktop, you can open this form and right-click on the 2022 box of Line 24. Choose Data Source and TurboTax will list all forms that report Sec 179 Expense and carryovers. You can either revise the number on the included forms or right-click and choose Override. As long as your entry doesn't turn red, your entry has been accepted.'
