I bought my house in 2014. When I bought it I had it check for mold, termites etc. We've done it each year. In 2015 everything was great. When he came in 2016 for my yearly check there was mold everywhere under the house. We had to install a new door, door frame and beams under the house. We also had to put in a dehumidifier. He said he didn't know how we had lived here and we don't know what caused it because it hit all of the sudden. There was no plumbing problems or anything. Can we claim that on our 2016 taxes since it wasn't over time and happen so quickly. It was less then a year

No. There's no casualty loss for mold or termite damage because they are not considered sudden and unexpected events. Even if you Did have an allowable casualty loss, it's an itemized deduction limited to amounts over 10% of AGI, which cuts out most claims. Suggest you have more frequent inspections.
