I sold my house (to my ex -husband) in late 2022. I have been renting property for all of 2023. Do I enter those payments anywhere to get any sort of tax break?

Some states have a renter’s credit. Illinois does not but there is a bill pending to accomplish that.

If you pay rent on your primary residence, you might be able to claim a state tax credit. There is no federal renter’s tax credit.
