Question

Can I deduct days that a rental property was not rented?

I am in the section of Turbo tax where it is asking if the property was rented all year but in the notes it appears as if this section is only if you owned the property for part of the year.  I owned it the full year but had 138 days where it was not rented.  Is this where I would input the rented/unrented days?

Yes, make sure to include days rented and days available for rent, (screen shot of this is found below).  If you hold property for rental purposes, you may be able to deduct your ordinary and necessary expenses (including depreciation) for managing, conserving, or maintaining the property while the property is vacant. However, you cannot deduct any loss of rental income for the period the property is vacant.  To enter this information please see belowhttps://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3288530
