It depends. A new roof isn't a qualified energy-efficient improvement. Improvements to increase value of a personal residence aren't deductible. However, a roof on a rental property is a depreciable expense.

If you have a rental property that the new roof was placed on, here's how you enter:

    • Federal > Wages & Income > Rental Properties & Royalties
    • Edit the address of the home
    • Scroll to Assets and choose  edit the assets of the property already in place
    • Add a new asset for the roof

As well, you mention that the home was in Florida, so if the roof was replaced due to a hurricane, you might be able to deduct it under the Casualty and Theft Deduction.  Here is an  article with more information.
