It depends. A new roof isn't a qualified energy-efficient improvement. Improvements to increase value of a personal residence aren't deductible. However, a roof on a rental property is a depreciable expense.
If you have a rental property that the new roof was placed on, here's how you enter:
Federal > Wages & Income > Rental Properties & Royalties
Edit the address of the home
Scroll to Assets and choose edit the assets of the property already in place
Add a new asset for the roof
As well, you mention that the home was in Florida, so if the roof was replaced due to a hurricane, you might be able to deduct it under the Casualty and Theft Deduction. Here is an articlewith more information.
