Can you claim the home heating credit if you rented a home for the first 9 months of the year even if you lived with someone else the last day of the year?

Yes, you can claim the credit but you must prorate your standard allowance for the number of days you owned or rented and occupied your Michigan homestead.

@MAK70 how do I do that? I am filing online myself.

You will count the number of days you rented (for Jan1 to Sept 30= 273) divided by 365 (.7479) then multiple this by your standard allowance.
